Training camp roundup: 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh weighs in on Tarell Brown's contract situation (Shutdown Corner)
Jul 28th 2013, 23:48

Training camps are in full swing and we're now just one week away from the first game of the 2013 preseason. Here's a quick spin around Sunday's training camp: • San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh addressed the contract issue involving cornerback Tarell Brown, which was reported first right here at Shutdown Corner . "He got hit by, that's a real torpedo," Harbaugh said. "But, he's been very professional. And the thing I think for all of us is finding the solution. There's a solution there. And soon that we all put our minds together and come up with the right plan, this will hopefully get to the point where you laugh about that and chuckle about that. That's the way I'd like to see it go." Harbaugh suggested that the 49ers were unaware of the situation, which is odd since their recent contract extensions (NaVorro Bowman, Anthony Davis) include base salary "de-escalator" language tied to workout participation, but does envision the two sides finding a fair resolution to the matter. "I think we'll explore all those options and find the solution. It's there," said Harbaugh. "You've just got to do some thinking and do some work and get it done. But, we're very motivated to do that because he deserves it. He's earned it. I don't want to see him playing for the minimum when he's a starting top-end player." First things first. Brown needs to hire new agent, which he'll be able to officially do later this week. • Arizona Cardinals first-round guard Jonathan Cooper agreed to terms on his four-year rookie contract that is worth around $14.5 million. Cooper's entire contract is fully guaranteed, but the Cardinals became the latest team to win the battle over offset language in a contract for a Top 10 pick. Cooper's signing on Sunday leaves just New York Jets cornerback Dee Milliner and Tennessee Titans guard Chance Warmack as the lone unsigned picks from the 2013 NFL draft. • During Sunday's practice, Denver Broncos lost center Dan Koppen for the season due to a torn ACL. The Broncos worked quickly to replace Koppen, announcing that they had agreed to terms with free agent center Steve Vallos, a 2007 seventh-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks who has started nine of 44 games with the Seahawks, Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars. • Another veteran who will receive an opportunity in training camp due to an injury is tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, who signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens to replace Dennis Pitta, who suffered a season-ending hip injury on Saturday. Pitta underwent surgery on Saturday and head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that Pitta would miss the season. Ravens tight end Ed Dickson knows he needs to pick up his game. "My first reaction is I was very sad, just to lose a teammate, a brother like that," Dickson said. "Since Day One, we've been helping each other out, and it hurt me to the heart. I've got 24 hours to grieve, and then it's the next man up. That's the mentality here. I've got to pick him up with my play."
